As we study Paul’s letter, we’re:

  1. Always mindful of his pure motives and sincere love for them 2:1-12
    1. His boldness in proclaiming the gospel amid much persecution 2:1-2
    2. With no deceit, uncleanness or guile 2:3
    3. Never seeking to please men, but only God 2:4
    4. Using no flattery or covetousness 2:5
    5. Wanting no praise from men or their money 2:6
    6. But were as gentle as a nursing mother 2:7
    7. And loving them so much that they were willing to sacrifice their own lives for them 2:8
    8. And work to the point of exhaustion 2:9
    9. Behaving themselves with holiness, righteousness and unblameably 2:10
    10. Exhorting, comforting and charging them as a father does his own children 2:11
    11. Longing for their worthy walk 2:12
  2. And his gratitude for the way they received the Word of God 2:13-16
    1. They received it not as the word of men but as the Word of God 2:13a
    2. And it produced the desired result in them 2:13b-14
    3. Even in the midst of much persecution 2:15-16
  3. And his great desire to be with them 2:17-18
  4. And that they will be his crown of rejoicing at Christ’s coming 2:19-20

    2. Paul and his companions were so comforted in our their own suffering and distress by their steadfast faith 3:7
    3. This is what really living was for Paul! 3:8
  8. And the joy, and thankfulness, and increasing longing to see them that filled Paul’s heart 3:9-11
  9. And his wishes for continued increase in their love and the total purity of their hearts at Christ’s coming 3:12-13
