3 KEY WORDS in ROMANS 6
KNOW vs 3, 6, 9, 16
RECKON vs 11
PRESENT vs 13, 16, 19
ROMANS 6, SECTION 1 - VERSES 1-14
PAUL ANSWERS THE QUESTION OF VERSE ONE IN VERSES 2-14
THIS SECTION DEALS MAINLY WITH OUR IDENTIFICATION WITH CHRIST (STARTED IN CHAPTER 5)
THE SECTION CULMINATES IN THE DRAMATIC STATEMENT OF VERSE 14 “...YOU ARE NOT UNDER THE LAW, BUT UNDER GRACE.”

ROMANS 6, SECTION 1 - VERSES 1-14
THE BAPTISM OF VERSE 3 AND FOLLOWING IS A DRY, SPIRITUAL BAPTISM (”PLACING INTO”)
IT IS THE “ONE BAPTISM” OF EPHESIANS 4:5 (cf HEBREWS 9:10)
IT IS THE BAPTISM TAUGHT IN 1 CORINTHIANS 12:13, COLOSSIANS 2:12 AND GALATIANS 3:27
ROMANS 6, SECTION 1 - VERSES 1-14
WE BELIEVE IN BAPTISM FOR TODAY!!! - THE ONE, “DRY,” SPIRITUAL BAPTISM THAT PAUL TEACHES FOR US
TO TEACH THAT ROMANS 6 IS IN ANY WAY ALLUDING TO A WATER CEREMONY PERFORMED BY A PASTOR IS WRONG AND MISLEADING; DOING SO OBFUSCATES THE SUBLIME TRUTH OF IDENTIFICATION IN CHRIST!
THE “...ANSWER OF A GOOD CONSCIENCE TOWARD GOD...” TODAY IS NOT TO BE WATER BAPTIZED, TRUSTING IN THE ONE BAPTISM PERFORMED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT AT THE MOMENT OF SALVATION
UNDERSTANDING IDENTIFICATION WITH CHRIST IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL IF YOU WANT VICTORY OVER SIN

ROMANS 6, SECTION 1 - VERSES 1-14 KNOW...
Dead to sin (vs 2)
Baptized into the Body of Christ (vs 3)
Baptized into his death (vs 3)
Buried with him (vs 4)
Raised with him to newness of life (vs 4)
United with him in his resurrection (vs 5)
Our old man crucified with him (vs 6)
The body of sin destroyed (vs 6)
Freed from sin/able to not serve sin (vs 6-7, 18, 22)
Dead with Christ/Alive with Christ (vs 8)
Dead to sin, alive to God (vs 11)
Not under law, but under grace (vs 14)
We died with Christ, thus our old man is not an issue with God; we MUST know and believe this fact
We are dead to sin, and we have the ability to allow sin to reign in our bodies or not
This was not the case in past dispensations, as they were under law (cf Rom 7:5,8)

ROMANS 6, SECTION 1 - VERSES 1-14 RECKON...
We must not allow sin to reign in our mortal bodies
We must not allow our bodies to be used as weapons of unrighteousness, so...
We must choose to whom we present ourselves (vs 13, 16)

ROMANS 6, SECTION 1 - VERSES 1-14 PRESENT...
Presenting ourselves to God is a JOYFUL act of obedience to our heavenly father
It MUST be gratitude driven, consistent with the Grace principle
We are NOT under a law principle
ROMANS 6, SECTION 2 - VERSES 15-23 PRESENT...
God does not punish us for not presenting ourselves to him, or for sinning (however, there are natural and spiritual consequences to sin)
Being free from the curse of the law is one reason we rejoice and give ourselves to God!
ROMANS 6, SECTION 2 - VERSES 15-23 PRESENT...
We were (and unbelievers are) servants of sin, with no good fruit; our past life is something to be ashamed of and it led to death
We are now servants of God, with the ability to produce good fruit, and we possess everlasting life
ROMANS 6, SECTION 2 - VERSES 15-23 PRESENT...
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
